In my experience of the young people in my childrens' circle of friends, pansexuals are unfortunate female people who would rather date other female people but who know they would be called bigots and socially ostracized if they admit to not wanting to date a feminine-identifying male person. So they give themselves that pansexual label to say that they are, in theory, willing to date male people, plus another label such as asexual or demisexual to say that they are not dating male people at the moment. @bgmnts @Glinner
