To all our readers in the U.S.,We will get straight to the point: This Thursday we ask you to defend Wikipedia's independence. To maintain our independence, we will never run ads. We depend on donations averaging about $16.36. Only a tiny portion of our readers give.If everyone reading this donated $2.75, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come. The price of a coffee is all we need. It's a little awkward for us to ask you this Thursday, as we're sure you are busy and we don't want to interrupt you. But there's never an easy time to remind people that giving to Wikipedia not only supports a service you frequently use, but it helps keep a neutral internet alive and thriving. We can't afford to feel embarrassed, asking you to make a donation—just like you should never feel embarrassed when you have to ask Wikipedia for information. We do it in the pursuit of open knowledge that's always ad-free, never tracks your data, and is never sold off to corporate big-wigs. That's nothing to be embarrassed about, if you ask us.When we made Wikipedia a non-profit, people warned us we'd regret it. Over a decade later, it’s the only top ten site run by a non-profit and a community of dedicated volunteers. We know that most people will ignore this message. But our hope is that you’ll think about how useful it is to have unlimited access to a reliable, neutral and ad-free source of information. Please take one minute to help us keep Wikipedia growing. Thank you. Please select an amount (USD)

@zemichi P.S.Ignore the millions of dollars of cash we have on hand that we have to report as part of our non-profit status. Ignore the amount of money we spend towards completely unknown and vague things that outweighs our internet hosting expenses by extremely unreasonable amounts. Now give your money, we're so destitute that we can only afford to host the entire Wikimedia conglomerate for the next 80 years.

@reitrace well yeah but I was wondering if you can sue someone for a fraction of a penny when you normally can't pay less than a penny. You can sue for a penny. But could suing for less than a penny be so small that you could just dismiss the case because it's too small?Google didn't answer this right away.

@zemichi +Wikipedia is not Neutral+Wikipedia is not reliable+Wikipedia is not (ideologically) independent+Nobody cares about Corporate big wigs if they keep the information neutral and objective ( i.e. Encyclopedia Britannica)+Wikipedia has constantly refused to put in place measures to secure neutrality and objectivity from the ideological meddling of their wikieditors+Nobody cares about ads, that’s what ad blockers are for.

@wowaname @kfist I keep track of the banners. One of the things I notice is that they're getting more frequent and this is happening with reports of an increase of spending.

@zemichi I'll support them as soon as they have a real policy of decentralization. The fact that all the Wikimedia's informations are hosted in a central infrastructure with only one owner is a huge problem.
