In case anyone has a misconception, twitter will never ever ever ever ever (willingly/intentionally) federate with the fediverse and/or use activitypub. That is antithetical to their business model.

@jerry exactly; unlike gab, twitter knows it's best not to leave enforcement of their ToS in the hands of people who host instances as a hobby

@jerry twitter permabanned me for something they only added to their rules well after the fact that i was banned, not giving me any chance to appeal, even though nowadays usually people are given second chances to their accounts, and warnings, and all that type of shiti think a lot of fedi users are twitter outcasts for one reason or another so twitter would be *very* stupid to allow us to interact with their users

@jerry not saying that i'd abuse the opportunity to interact with twitter users, but honestly at this point it's too much of a mental strain on me to deal with twitter's Content Algorithms™ and even have a chance of interacting with people there. to me, twitter is just a bigger mastodon.social

@jerry glad to see your thoughts here. I’m finally catching up on bluesky project. What do you think is the co’s motivation to announce this?

@bzdata applying the “Uber” model to social media infrastructure. Right now, they own the taxi fleet (the servers, storage, bandwidth), which no doubt costs them hundreds of millions of dollars/year. They see a way to outsource the ownership and maintenance of the infrastructure through federation, while retaining the ability to monetize traffic on the service.
