What I like about Mastodon is the range of opinions it encourages, all likeminded ones from very different areas of work or regions or cultures are getting a very sane platform here to discuss issues that surround us. Its been fun to discuss things with people here. Also the delete & redraft feature, 500 words features...are precious. What I dislike, is the limited crowd availability to discuss or crib about topics like cricket or movies.

@itsbhavikjoshi You would be surprised with that traction you will get on either of these topics is my guess. Don't wait for things to happen here, make them happen;-)

@Vishsai While I keep track of cricket, I don't actively watch or follow any more. It is an over-hyped game. Tennis for me any day, and if it has Roger on one side then bring it on.@wabbster @itsbhavikjoshi

@Samyukth @Vishsai @wabbster I enjoy most games including Tennis, Badminton, Soccer & Chess...just got harder to keep track of developments with time & slowly one by one I lost track. Cricket is now kindof force-fed in India so its easier to keep track of.

@itsbhavikjoshi Football for me. But follow all sports including cycling. Cricket has enough supporters so support other sports. Plus dad is into cricket big time so can't stay away from him. And mom supports any team that wins even if it's Pakistan or Australia. Though her favorite players are Akram Pointing, Richards and Tendulkar. @Samyukth @wabbster

@Vishsai @Samyukth @wabbster used to play football, even my brother & my roommate all of us used to have a blast. But that was a decade back, then our favorites started quitting the game one by one...were unable to go with the flow after a while. Even now I miss it. Literally one of the best games ever, but trust India to not highlight sports that actually encourage playing like a cohesive unit.

@Vishsai @Samyukth @itsbhavikjoshi Kohli is overrated. If Steve Smith hadn't lost a year, he'd have overtaken Kohli in tests easily.Discuss.

@wabbster @Vishsai @Samyukth @itsbhavikjoshi Smith will always have the argument of playing more & scoring better on faster pitches in his favour, they both aren't tested enough in the modern day tests as compared to say the Laras or Sachins, the bowling just isn't good enough, i find. Lots of ifs & buts, a year lost is that, sure, he could've! I do like watching Kohli's batting more though, wow, haven't seen a full test in a long time.Jacques Kallis, the greatest cricketer ever, my 2 cents.

@Owaisbukhari15 @wabbster @Vishsai @Samyukth Dravid & Andy Flower are the most complete batsmen I have seen, of course Lara was a geniue freak!Of today's players, I enjoy watching Williamson & Guptill bat, but overall the game favours the batsmen too much these days & I hate the subcontinent rules of bringing soin into play from day 1 itself. Even contests are not being encouraged much nowadays.

@itsbhavikjoshi @wabbster @Vishsai @Samyukth Oh, yes! Love them both, Andy did have a separate gear though, never saw Dravid play like that, khair, he didn't have to, that's how good he was. For me, the complete player would be a mix of Sachin & Jayasurya, ABD looked pretty close. Current lot, Rohit Sharma, didn't mention, but, yeah, him, love watching him, it's all so very subjective & inexplicable. How good were Gavaskar & Richards, i wonder!

@Owaisbukhari15 @wabbster @Vishsai @Samyukth for me a complete player is someone who can deal with the new ball & old ball effectively under hostile conditions because thats the true test of a batsman. Must know that scoring is great but not staying on the crease will only help the other team. So Dravid & Flower are my picks, from the current lot, only Williamson & Smith show that attribute. There is Pujara of course but the guy is buried so badly by his own management.

@itsbhavikjoshi @wabbster @Vishsai @Samyukth Hmmm! Shall we do Bowlers now? My vote is for Wasim, perhaps the most sure i am of anything cricket related. No, actually Warne, fuck!

@Owaisbukhari15 @wabbster @Vishsai @Samyukth Bowlers are tough, really.Curtly Ambrose-Allan Donald were gifted, Marshall & Walsh were imposing, McGrath-Pollock were models of consistency & stamina. Akhtar-Lee were wild, Wasim-Richard Hadlee had an answer to everything, Warne was a hunter, Murali was a freak. Kumble-Vettori were the toughest warriors, Vaas-Srinath-Gough-Streak were a one man army. Steyn-Shane Bond were destructive. Ryan Harris-Shane Bond had injury-ridden but brilliant careers.

All brilliant names on this list. I am sure that one would have a similar list for every discipline - batting left & right, bowling fast L&R, spin L&R, WK.@itsbhavikjoshi @Owaisbukhari15 @wabbster @Vishsai

@Vishsai - I was toying with Sir Garfield. But didn't add him to my 3 just because I havent had the privilege of watching him live. He is one of those rare individuals who would make 2 appearances in the list above. @itsbhavikjoshi @Owaisbukhari15 @wabbster

And speaking of watching live, my best live sporting experience was last year in June - chasing Roger Federer in Germany across the grass courts of Stuttgart and Halle. What is yours? @Vishsai @itsbhavikjoshi @Owaisbukhari15 @wabbster

Oh! We were at Halle the same year! :)That's the sporting experience I am gladdest and most grateful to have had. The joy of watching Federer. And on grass! In 2018! At No. 1!! And close to 15 years after I first watched him play and was spellbound by the fluid grace and incredible power...! The finals were heartbreaking - but the sheer privilege of having watched him across 5 matches was the overpowering memory I carried away. <3

@Themadraseye Oh, what a lovely coincidence this is. Yes, watching Roger on a grass court has been on my wish-list for years. And my daughter is probably a bigger fan. And yes, she cried after the finals, inconsolably. But the joy of watching him in Stuttgart (SF vs Kyrgios and F vs Raonic) and then following him to Halle and seeing him play 5 matches (so 7 matches in 9 days) - unbeatable experience. @wabbster @Bertyashley
