Spinster has been a real boon for me. I'm not on Facebook and as the She-Banned (you liked that Alex) contingent here I'm so grateful. Myh 9 years and 1800 follows on twatter meant a lot to me. I still think of some of those women, their stories, admire their work....and it's a great instance here of us sharing. Thank you.

@MacGueurle @Fullycaffeinated I think he is trying to cut a different kind of cost. Being decentralized takes the heat off him. Right now, for example, he's torn between giving the president of the United States a platform to speak to his citizens, and thousands of users calling for Trump to be banned from the platform due to hate speech. Being decentralized means Jack can erase some of that accountability. For example, he can ban Trump if he wants, and the US Gov can just set up their own instance.Jack is currently being pulled in multiple directions by world leaders. It's a much bigger stressor than he likely ever imagined when he created Twitter. Being decentralized means he can basically do whatever he wants, then say "if you don't like it, make your own." The cost he's trying to cut is accountability.

The fediverse was created by people who wanted to escape from under the thumb of the big companies. But the fediverse is small and the big companies are rich enough to buy influence in the fediverse if they want to, by means as simple as paying their engineers to "volunteer".
