My mother was sold that lie. I am bitter that I was born in the late 70s, which was around the time that feminists successfully conned mothers & wives that careers mattered more than family & home, and mothers like mine ate that sh*t up. I was a daycare kid. I was a sad kid. I would have loved to have grown up during the 1950s-when taking care of one's own kids & home was the norm.

@whernandez I was a stay at home mom, my son was born late 70's. Yes, I got a lot of sh*t from women...I did not care. 😊 I told them, you are the one missing out!

@JM @whernandez So what do you do? I’m a homemaker. 😳👀I was fortunate. If you didn’t work outside of home and send your kids to summer camp you actually were frowned upon. When I did work when my kids were young it was part time.Picked them up from school.Nah it didn’t make them perfect.😁

@whernandez My mother didn't eat it up. It pissed her off. In her 50s she had to go to work. She worked well into her 70s.Most of my ideas about feminism come from my mom.

@whernandez I was raised where my Mom stayed home with the kids and took care of them and everything else while my father ran his business, My wife and I agreed she would stay home and take care of the kids, I don't understand why people have kids just to let someone else raise them, I mean, I understand some don't have a choice but if you do, they should raise their kids themselves, how can you trust someone else with your kids.

@whernandez Unfortunately now it almost takes two incomes to make ends meet and pay your bills. Makes it more unlikely that moms can stay at home.

@whernandez Growing up in the fifties was not that great without money.I lived in a mixed-race neighborhood and regularly got jumped for being white. My family did not move to a safe neighborhood until I was fifteen, to a neighborhood under the flight path into LAX.I, too, was a sad kid, living with smoking parents and their pet cats, both of which kept me so skinny with asthma one could see my ribs.It was not until I moved out that I put on weight and started flirting with girls.

@Jaime @JM @whernandez Had a successful career and then had my 1st daughter and a year later my husband and I decided that since I longed to be home with her I should. We took a 2/3 cut in income to make that happen and I never looked back. It was a choice, sometimes a difficult one financially, but never regretted it. Sadly, my only female inlaw who chose the opposite path did not create strong and loving bonds with her kids. It's possible to do but takes tons of flexibility and dedication.

@whernandez Thank you for the great thread which resulted from your comment. I was fortunate and thankful to have had a stay at home mother.Feminism has done great harm to society in my mind. 2 family incomes are basically a requirement. Females now suffer the same stress, health issues, and shorter lifespans that were previously the domain of males.

@holymolyrocky @whernandez I’ve never cared much about what anyone thinks. I nursed my kids when it wasn’t popular. I had my son at home and never had him circumcised. I homeschooled my kids. Plus many other things that people gave me crap over. I remember a salesman from a major company who said something disparaging about my NOT WORKING, and I set him strait. My husband still laughs about it. Before I quit working I was in sales and managed stores of my own so I knew what job was harder.

@oystergirl @Jaime @JM @whernandez Good on you. I remember when I first met my husband. Having been a child of a mom who worked because she too was sold on the feminist lie, I longed to be that stay at home mom. During one of our many long conversations, him on the love seat, me on the couch, we talked about why a man would want his wife to work. “Because it takes the responsibility off of him” I remember him so simply saying. It was at that moment I began to fall in love.

@oystergirl @Jaime @JM @whernandez Good on you. I believe the best part of me came from being home with a loving mama when I was a child. So many precious memories and feelings of security. She is now 94, living with me and I look after her. It’s my special privilege to do so.

@JM @Jaime @whernandez SOOOO important and the thing so badly needed. The whole nation is suffering because of parents not nurturing small kids in morals, integrity, love. And it has become generational to the hurt of our nation.

@Kat @whernandez That is true and most middle class folks who make the one-income choice make a lot of sacrifices to do it. It isn’t easy. There’s no room for “keeping up with the Jones.”

@WatchfulCat @Kat Exactly. I was offered an amazing job working as an ELD (English Language Development) coordinator in the Bay Area with a starting salary of 75k. I turned it down to teach online, so that I could work at home while my kids were in school. Let's just say that my pay is SIGNIFICANTLY lower than the ELD job. Suffice it to say, we drive used cars & don't eat out a whole lot.

@WatchfulCat @Jaime @JM @whernandez Huge love Cat. My parents are 91 and 84 and still independent but I take care of them when medical issues arise. Because my gran and pop lived with them for 40 years they took out long term health insurance, but when push comes to shove i am there. Last year it was for 5 different surgeries and medical issues. I was there today, both hail and hardy and still so in love with life. WE give back what we received. IF we didn't get it, we don't understand that.❤️

@whernandez I was sold the lie, too. I denied biology for so long I struggled with infertility. When I finally became an old mother, I couldn't bear the thought of leaving my children in daycare.
