Current status: I'm on a train. I love trains. I wish rail travel was more practical in my part of the country.

@ink_slinger I wonder how much bigger Calgary and Edmonton have to get before someone decides a commuter train between the two is economically viable?

@mshFunny I was just reading about exactly that in the MacEwan magazine the other day. I've often wondered why it isn't a thing. Maybe if it was like a ferry on rails and you could park your truck on it. @ink_slinger

@msh Some private company wants to build a hyperloop now, which is just hilarious to me.

@msh If it downtown to downtown, with a stop in Red Deer, I'd at least take weekend trips by train instead of by car.

@ink_slinger part of the problem is that often such a proposed train goes airport to airport and who in Edmonton wants to drive to Nisku to take a train when they could just hop on a plane for all that trouble? Also public transit to YYC is crappy on the other end too. It's almost like the airport authorities or airlines have some sort of influence to sabotage such proposals...but that's an unfounded conspiracy theory.

@msh Almost...Though, on a similar note, I'd usually rather drive to Calgary. By the time you get to the airport, clear security, take the flight and then get a cab to wherever you're going, you've hardly saved any time and it's almost certainly more expensive than paying for gas.But if I could take a quick, cheap train to the Calgary airport (from downtown Edmonton) and save money by not having to deal with the silly 50 minute connecting flight, I'd take it. Vice versa on the way home, too.
