i was hesitant about seeing knives out bc the cast is like 92% white people, but i gave it a shot bc if lakeith stanfield was a part how bad could it be

pleasant surprise that the one woman of color in the main cast turned out to be the protagonist, and -- no spoilers -- the central plot of the film dealt with the malicious self-interest of white people

while im on the topic of movies that look extremely white, a beautiful day in the neighborhood aka the mr rogers movie is largely about a black woman raising her biracial baby in pre-post-racial 90s new york while dealing with her husband's nervous breakdown

my partner grew up without cable TV so for most of his childhood he watched old movies on vhs/dvd. he has strong sentimental attachment to older films. and while a lot of them admittedly have some redeeming values, a lot a lot a lot of them are paiiiiinfully whiteim always a bit shocked to see an older movie with a more inclusive cast and themes (some exist). and im always relieved when contemporary films defy categorical whiteness -- even the ones marketed as sucj
