Thinking of migrating the Toot! bug tracker off Github, since they seem to be doubling and tripling down on offering service to ICE.But where? Is there a service with decent UX that would ideally be able to import existing issues?I’d prefer to not have to host anything myself.

@tootapp I don't know if this would be what you're looking for, but the Hyperspace team is now using Jira to manage issues. There's a free plan for up to 10 users, though it's not public. Current GitHub Actions integrations are nice as they can auto-import issues into Jira. I've also used YouTrack, which is pretty decent.

@alicerunsonfedora To be honest I find Jira to be an absolute nightmare to work with.

@tootapp The next-gen projects are nice, but I'm not a huge fan on their new Mac app, ported from the iPad. Aside from things like the search section opening a whole new area instead of using the text box and the previous description edit bugs, it just doesn't quite feel like a good Mac app.

@alicerunsonfedora We use next-gen at work, and it is so. very. slow.

@tootapp gitea.com or sourcehut.org are good services, gitea.com is free, Sourcehut requires a subscription (but I’d be willing to front the $40 for the initial two years?)

@moritzheiber Do you know if they can import GitHub issues?

@tootapp Gitea has a feature called “migrations”, Sourcehut I don’t know, but their IRC is fairly responsive (and the main developer, Drew Devault, is also on Mastodon, @sir)

@moritzheiber @tootapp I would be happy to implement a GitHub issue migration tool for you, can have it ready tomorrow if you wish. I've been meaning to do it anyway

@moritzheiber @sir I looked at Gitea, and 1) I like that it is small and self-contained and seems to have a nice smooth UI, but 2) it's self-hosted, which I wanted to avoid (but can maybe live with for something so simple). Also, 3) migration is supposed to migrate issues but when I tried it on the test instance it just... didn't? Finally, 4) them having their main repo on Github kind of doesn't inspire confidence?

@tootapp @sir gitea.com is their free, hosted version, that’s why I used .com instead of .io 😉But given what @sir just said Sourcehut might be the better option after all?

@moritzheiber @sir I would really like the mercurial support, but, looking at it, I am kind of put off by the programmer-styled interface... Also, it's being quite slow for me?

@tootapp @moritzheiber I've been working on performance improvements today (git.sr.ht only, hg.sr.ht is still kind of slow), give it another shot?

@tootapp The only thing that comes to mind is Bitbucket or Jira?

@fahrni @tootapp Atlassian is an Australian company, and given the country’s moronic cyber “security” laws, I personally wouldn’t trust them with any of my data.
