ThreadIt's bizarre that entertainers think they are the only ones who understand the cost of military action.Take D-Day.We killed 20,000 French civilians. Why?Because there was no other choice, and we didn't do it deliberately.

We freed all of Europe. Millions of people.Would it have been more moral to NOT free Europe, since innocent civilians were going to die?George Orwell said that most pacifists oppose war, and that's as far as their thinking goes.I see that all the time. Well, when your national security is threatened, sometimes you have to go to war.

The raid on Baghdadi showed what's possible with today's weapons. There was nothing left of the house and multiple vehicles, but no nearby civilians were harmed.Did you know that the Geneva Conventions allow for civilian casualties? The only prohibitions are on disproportionality and on indiscriminate attacks. You can't blow up a city to get one man, and you can't use weapons like artillery on civilian centers.

Assad, Putin, Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, and the Iranians routinely commit unambiguous war crimes, but the world's press and "human rights" organizations don't care.Orwell said that lots of pacifists oppose war only when it's waged in defense of western democracies. He wrote that in 1949.Imagine if he were alive today. He'd be stunned.

@ThomasWic It would have been moral to not start the war to begin with. IBM provided the Germans with punch cards, Ford motor with tank treads and the rails that ran to concentration camps, American Standard oil with plane fuel (Prescott Bush's company), the royal family of The Netherlands profited greatly from the war as well. Wars need funding, and many of the nations and companies that profited from that war; that funded it, never faced consequences.

The Third Revolution in Military Affairs allows for major conflict that doesn't produce collateral damage. And Trump is helping by using American economic leverage.War is becoming obsolete. But that's only because incredible new weapons were invented. After World War One, everybody disarmed. Because of that, nobody could stop the Japanese and the Nazis. At first. And here's the hell of it:

@ThomasWic when fight or flight are the options, sometimes flight is the wrong choice. Improvements in modern warfare (3rma) is helping to reduce the horrific casualties of yesteryear.

The Japanese had the worst weapons in World War Two, and they squandered the lives of their men.The Germans, on the other hand, built ridiculously over-machined weapons, and THEY squandered the lives of their men.If the Allies had had well-trained and well-equipped armed forces in 1939, World War Two may not have even happened.I'm a realist. We need well-equipped armed forces. Period."Books, not bombs!"Shut up, fatty.

@ThomasWic Sounds like common sense to me, but people - not even just Leftists - stop the entire conversation at "I'm anti-war". Which, TO THEM, means defund the military and let's all have a civilized discussion to resolve our differences, because obviously no religious extremist could ever refuse just having a nice chat. Like that "austere scholar" fellow who just passed away recently.

I think of all the American men who went into both world wars with terrible training and lousy equipment. In the first battle that the Americans fought in World War One, our men fell in rows, cut down by machine guns. Each wave died.In World War Two, we had aircraft that were like flying coffins. That's because of "Books, not bombs!"Trump has the right idea. Keep everybody off guard.Oh, and there's another thing.

After we briefed French army intelligence about our plans in Iraq, they passed the information to Saddam Hussein. In Mogadishu, the Italians passed intelligence to warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. Why don't old-school military people like James Mattis ever talk about THAT? Our best allies are the Saudis. Not the Europeans.Trump plays his cards close to the vest because it SAVES AMERICAN LIVES.

@ThomasWic “Aircraft that were like flying coffins”. Aye. My dad (Navy, WWII) survived two “landings”, one of which found him waking up at the far end of the runway with his left leg bent in the wrong direction. He said it was like being a marble inside a tin can.

@ThomasWic I can confirm the unreadiness of the US entering WWII. My WWII veteran relative told me when he was first training, all the weapons they had to train with was actual sticks and British guns. Nothing else.

@ThomasWic this image reminded me of what I learned about my 1st cousin twice removed, a Col. in The 101st Infantry Regiment of the Yankee Division, E.L.Logan. That he had once been relieved of command seemed like a blot on his reputation until I learned it stemmed from his excessive affection for the men he commanded and in the eyes of his superiors his "inertia" in sending his men to their doom. I felt much relieved to learn that my forebear was not an unfeeling man. https://tinyurl.com/y4mol4hp

@ThomasWic “All told in this war I have participated in more than 80 battles. I have found your American Army the most honorable of all our enemies. You have also been the bravest of our enemies and in fact the only ones who have attacked us seriously in this year’s battles. I therefore honor you, and, now that the war is over, I stand ready, for my part, to accept you as a friend.”—Chief of Staff for General v. Einem, commander of the Third German Army

@Lisa22 @ThomasWic I had to spend 300 quid on equipment when I went to Afghan in 2002. Not for luxury either, are kit was shite. We didn't even have desert boots, the ones they did send two months in split within two weeks!! The rifles were upgraded thankfully, because the ones we went through basic with were very poor. My cocking handle fell out on my first exercise.

@CAConservative71 @ThomasWic - We frustrated the Germans during WWII causing one (unidentified) officer to remark, "A serious problem in planning against American doctrine is that the Americans do not read their manuals, nor do they feel any obligation to follow their doctrine."Admiral Karl Dönitz also stated: "The reason that the American Navy does so well in wartime is that war is chaos, and the Americans practice chaos on a daily basis."These worthy opponents were BOTH correct.

@ThomasWic They did have great torpedoes, the Long Lance. Took terrible tolls in the early part of the war. The downside was their production simply could not keep up
