Good find -- absolutely a Gab server, and is managed by the "Fourth Estate Public Benefit Corporation." They also fund a Mastodon server. And they have a "no harassment" moderation policy...So @FourthEstate can you let us know more about Civiq? What is your position on Federtating #Gab content which clearly does include harassing speech?

@isolategab @FourthEstate The 4E journalist.social account welcomes people to fourthestate.social, which WAS running normal Mastodon and went down back in February. This means they created a Masto instance, something happened or it broke, and then they deliberately chose Gab as their software choice, but haven't spoken to why they made this choice. But we can no longer assume it may have been the first thing they saw and they were naive.

We selected to use a modified version of the Gab codebase because it provided a minimally viable product for a proof of concept and beta launch. We are now working on a full code audit and creation of a fork from Gab that will accommodate the feature set we want to develop.@isolategab @FourthEstate

About moderation and federation, (with Gab or any other instance) - The About statement on CIviq is a pretty strong summation of our position: https://civiq.social/about/Accounts and instances that are in violation of those policies are subject to moderation.@mlubert @isolategab @FourthEstate

@jeff @isolategab @FourthEstate That doesn't answer why, when choosing the software to run your instance, you picked Gab, the one created by white supremacists, especially when you ran an instance last year into February that was using actual Mastodon.

You need to read the other posts - I already explained why.https://journalist.social/@jeff/103005921853554249Net/Net - Vanilla Mastodon didn't fit the bill. @mlubert @isolategab @FourthEstate

@jeff @isolategab @FourthEstate Most large scale instances block all Gab instances outright, so you're instance is already on blocklists and won't be federated.

@mlubert @jeff @isolategab this is untrue, most instances don't block all Gab instances.

@jeff @FourthEstate -- Thanks, Jeff, you can understand why we check. Just running Gab server software alone isn't a show stopper, but it is a thing that raises suspicions for reasons that you could imagine. Can you explain more clearly given your moderation policy, if you view the central gab.com servers in violation of your content policies and if you plan to add them to your block list?
