Pretty sure I'm not going to bother renewing Amazon Prime, and that I'm going to go back to preordering books via Indigo/Chapters instead of Amazon. Better to support a Canadian company anyway. #counterfeit #scamazon

@coldacid meh. Never needed prime. My orders are always over $35.That said, Indigo's prices suck, and the way they treat vendors is just as bad as Amazon. Anything that sells, they re-source directly from China and private label. Fuck 'em.

@coldacid come to think about it, I never buy books from Amazon. I buy things. Like tools.Most of my books are from BMV.If you do get a counterfeit book, request a refund. You'll get it, and Amazon and the scammy seller will get $0

@Bishop with the vast majority of the books I buy being preorders, I don't think BMV will do me any good. I'm more or less stuck with Amazon or Indigo. Prices for the latter sure do suck though.

@coldacid if you can wait it out, most new books are ~$10 at BMV. They'll have a sharpie mark on the bottom edge. Tbh, I have a whole bookshelf of books to catch up on. Rarely is anything so urgent that I need it right away.Also, lately, I've been reading a lot of forgotten books from the 70's (that actually form the basis of a lot of popular books/podcasts today). And the new content misses a lot of the nuance of the source material that isn't even cited.

@Bishop I hate my books getting marked up at all. I'll use BMV for used books (although I much prefer the used book stores in my area instead) but for new stuff, that's a deal-breaker. Likewise, I preorder series I'm following so I can start reading right away!

@Bishop there are a couple of used book stores up in Port Perry that I enjoy, also Gnu Books in Oshawa. And whenever I go places I always check out the local book stores for anything interesting.

@coldacid nice. I found a rare book in Kincardine that's on Amazon for $300. I paid $3.99.Not worth $300, but it's rare and historical and the niche is willing to pay for it. Good read tho.
