One day we will achieve TB of memory, and we will look back at today and say "man... remember when we thought 32GB of RAM was more than enough to run anything we wanted?"

@proxeus but a lot of computers already have 1tb? It'll run you a few thousand dollars but some people (namely, data scientists, animators, and gamers with their mommy's credit card) say it's worth it.

@yoko Of RAM? I don't think so. Not in the consumer market at least. If you mean servers or data centers, I don't know.

@proxeus apple mac pro has it, a few gaming computers have it. The costs are 5 digits but it's very much in the consumer market.

@yoko But it's very pricey, which makes it prohibitive for the consumer market that isn't willing to spend more than 1k€ or 2k€ at best.I'm talking about the day when 1TB of RAM is the minimum you can get for your computer, which nowadays is not (you can get 4-8GB * minimum *)

@proxeus well, yeah. "Consumer market" is a broad term, but if we're talking minimums/standards, then sure. It's just not unheard of.Regardless, the only reason things will start needing terabytes of ram is Wirth's law.

@yoko The consumer market is bellow 2-3k€ price, which is appliances that are meant for domestic use. Workstations and servers are meant for professional use and these can range higher in price. You can of course use 500€ equipment in an office and call it "professional" since it's being used for professional purposes or buy a 10000€ workstation for home, plug a GPU on it and call it a "gamer station", but generally speaking the majority of the people will move around the ranges I specified.
