@grainloom to be more precise, local nonhierarchical unions directly managing local industry and cooperating globaly with other unions to get goods and resources around the globe to where they need to go.

@grainloom if you arent convinced just consider exactly how much infrastructure is already in place to do this for businesses and commodities

@the_gayest_doggo @grainloom Money is an abstraction to represent value. It's not a good abstraction, but it persists because the global economy is in a local minimum because the disadvantages of sharing information outweigh the advantages. An economy with sufficient incentives for economic agents to communicate their values directly without the abstraction layer would be more efficient, assuming the existence of an agreeable language for that communicationI could tag someone to provide details about valueflows, which is a grammar for that language, but that's probably more information than you want. The important thing to know is that the benefits of collectives aren't just for adversarial situations where we interface with capitalism. We have a basis for building economic networks that are competitive with capitalist business units comparable in size while being just to labor, community, and the environmentThe issue is bringing trust-based networks up to scale with multinational corporations. This can happen, but folks are still working on the software supportMy interest is in using games to replace discourse an evidence-based approach to economic, social, and political theory

@jwinnie microprocessors. medicine. efficiency.if you need 100 arrowheads it's better to make a mold and melt some iron, than to make them individually.it's more efficient to print a thousand books after you've built a printing press

@grainloom but those things are all possible at the local scale. You can keep a printing press in your house and print books.

@jwinnie microchips? I'd like to see someone build one in their garage. But it hasn't happened so far. Same goes for all PC hardware.Old computers are possible, but good luck doing encryption on those chips.

@jwinnie or try making a medical implant.or an MRI scanner. idk how you'll even build the tools that will let you build it.

@grainloom @jwinnie that's what the walkaway project is all about. full self-sufficiency *might* be doable on a village-level, but everything is much more complex and difficult than you think. with current technology an everything factory would not fit in your garage and building one would involve a lot of work from a team of diverse experts.

@grainloom @jwinnie i mean, there are religious groups in the US that do this already, but lifting the technical floor on that kind of thing is HARD

@grainloom small cooperatives, self sufficient villages that export their excess for money which they can use to buy stuff they can't manufacture (interlop with markets). Abondant usage of *community owned* open source and free software and hardware technology. Cooperative community owned hackerspaces to encourage the same. Hackerspaces as incubators for cooperatives. These are some ideas I have either comeup or read about that can allow us to slowly move away from the current trend of capitalism, big businesses and climate change.
