Those opposing free speech never seem understand the consequences of doing so.You are empowering the government to throw you in jail if you openly disagree with them. There isn't much stopping political protestors from being jailed BUT free speech laws. That's REGARDLESS of your political alignment.

@Rasp yeah and I agreeI just think that it's important to understand the term "free speech" in the context of what it actually means in practicein practice it means cops protecting fascists and locking up leftists for not protesting the right way

@Rasp well I mean I think it's the same shit as people who are anti whiteit's not that they hate white people it's that they hate the institution of whiteness, or in other words, the way whiteness actually affects the worldI think if people can't look past the most surface level literal meaning of your words there's not much hope of convincing them of stuff anyway

@mal @Rasp perhaps they should consider communicating on a more grounded level, then, as that is what most people do. intentional obfuscation for seemingly no purpose doesn't do anyone any good

@mal @Rasp and intentionally obfuscating one's intentions behind a seemingly contrary name, i.e. "anti free speech movement" is far from discussing the issue in a realistic manner; most people will only look at the surface level of your words, and you will largely only attract ire and bottleneck your movement. not to mention the extremists that don't believe in free speech -- i.e. those that took your words at their surface level and were attracted by it -- will join such a movement, further polluting it.it seems awfully asinine to go about communication reform in such a roundabout way; why not just be up front with your beliefs from the get go? the whole "dude, just look beyond the surface of my words, don't take me literally" sounds forced

@dikkus @mal Its like how the presumption of innocence mean bad people can remain free to do bad things while the states hands are tied.Yet we have to allow it because the greater evil is even more innocent people going to jail.

@mal @dikkus You cant will it out of existence but you can and should consider how you speak about things. You don't have to use their words especially when those words are an obvious trap. You don't have to engage with those terms.

@QwertySpaceI think what annoys me more is the assertion that systematic oppression is NOT WORSE than the disorganized mob. The dangerous elements of the mob can be dealt with when the law allows it. When its the goverment that does it who is going to stop them? There are Internment Camps along the southern border of the united states RIGHT NOW.

@Rasp I do agree and support with free speech. But as a counterpoint the Netherlands doesnt have free speech but if im protesting something here, and doing so legally I can garuntee you there is a MUCH smaller chance of me being assaulted by a cop than in america or being thrown in jail. Afterall in america you can be thrown in jail for a few days until your found innocent then next time you protest just thrown in again.Point being freedom of speech is a good thing but its such a small part of the puzzle to a free society and sadly overall there really isnt much freedom left in america.
