regardless, it's a little incorrect to say that a hypnotist can't make you do anything you don't want to for a couple of reasons:1) your ability to evaluate the repercussions of an action is severely stunted while being under2) it's easy to break something you don't want to do into multiple steps to make you want to do it (example: "you want to have sex with me -> no", "you fully believe that I am your celebrity crush -> yes, you want to have sex with me -> yes"3) the same psychological techniques that can be used on a person in day to day life can be used to greater effect while one is in a hypnotic state (foot in the door, door in the face, etc)

@NPC I mean, BDSM is in a similar realm regarding safety, honestlywhen you have someone tied up, you can do anything you want to them, maybe even easier than you can do with hypnosis (although with hypnosis the effects can be more scary), it really just comes down to only trancing with people you can trust, generally

@pea I agree with 1), but for 2) to happen you'd need multiple hypnosis sessions and if you're fully against the idea that the other person wants to hypnose you and never play along that won't really work. 3) would work in this case then to maybe both manipulate and build trust

@solidsanek that's not true, 2 can be over the course of one hypnosis session and even if it would require a bit of awareness to work (it's not something I've tested, for obvious reasons), fractionation (bringing someone quickly out of hypnosis and back down into it) is common practice as a deepening method

@pea I read about hypnosis, not as much as you clearly, but when you put it like this it could work.Also maybe I phrased it badly (since I wrote that post a little bit after waking up) but you can suggest things that can go against their will. What I wanted to say is that afaik, and correct me if I'm wrong, you can't make people do things that would harm them or put their life at risk because your subconscious will still prioritise your survival over anything being suggested.

@solidsanek this is generally true yes, this is a phenomenon often referred to as the "hidden observer", basically "the subconscious mind has to agree that what's happening is something it wants", whether that means it's all in good fun ( + the desire to please an authority figure ) in the case of stage hypnosis, that "yeah that's hot I want that" in the case of erotic hypnosis, etc

@solidsanek the thing you'll realise with hypnotism is that since no one does know exactly what's going on, hypnotists have all sorts of ways to explain exactly what they're doing, so that they can think about what they're doing in an easier way :p
