@quad don't mind this temperature too much. The problem is when it becomes 16+ at the middle of the day

@virus Svalbard *only* has fiber. At least to my knowledge. I think they're possibly the only piece of land where most inhabitants have fiber and DSL isn't even an option

@virus I think there's some super old phone lines. But Longyearbyen has 100% fiber penetration afaik. The only ones without fiber are the ones who live so far in the middle of nowhere that they have to use satellite internet.

@virus After a quick google search, I found this: https://www.digi.no/artikler/i-longyearbyen-har-alle-fibernett/289553It seems they overtook or rent some big ass fat fiber cables that Space Norway laid in 2004. And they've also extended fiber to Ny-Ålesund, so apparently even the people that far out in the middle of nowhere have fiber now.

@virus If you count Svalbard as its own country, their average connection speed is supposedly 35-40. Beating the current champion, south korea, with their puny 28 Mbit/sSo if Svalbard was counted as its own sovereign territory, it doesn't just have faster connections than most of the US. It has the highest average connection speed in the whole world. By a pretty fucking huge margin too.

@Miaourt @virus Technically you don't.Svalbard is a unique piece of land and its political status is too confusing for me to cram into a fediverse post: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Svalbard_TreatyBut if you're a French citizen, you technically already have the right to live in Svalbard.Norway mostly just manages the land and taxes needed to run it.Like, as of 2016, even North Koreans are allowed to live there without a Visa

@Miaourt @virus Long story short. Svalbard is a part of Norway. But it's also open to any country who signed the Svalbard treaty.
