@Gargron The solution is clearly continuous integration. One PR merge = one deploy to thousands of instances. There are no problems with this perfect plan and everyone loves it.

@Mainebot Tried it once, was not happy with the result or how long it took. Sorting commit messages requires knowledge about the code base. Turning commit messages into something that an end-user would care about requires some effort as well. As much as I hate doing it I do it faster than anyone else.

@Gargron Friendica is currently in the RC phase with 717 commits, containing 405 changed files with 73,728 additions and 55,139 deletions. But I guess that Mastodon has shorter release cycles, hadn't it? We only have new versions 3-4 times a year.

@heluecht Do you squash PRs into master? Our 451 commits are 451 separate pull requests

@Mainebot No, it's a dreadful task. It's a piece of work you have to do after you've finished work.

@gargron I meanit SOUNDS like something you should do as a part of the work itself. Then the end of the work is just compilation and not creation.

@Mainebot I know that. I name all my PRs in a way that they could be included in the changelog verbatim, thereby saving myself a lot of future work. Unfortunately, other developers don't, and I do not enforce it.

@Gargron no, we don't squash them. So this explains the higher number of commits.BTW: The higher number of additions and deletions is explained easily as well: Friendica is really old - and especially the old parts aren't of high code quality. So we are in a constant process of redesigning the whole stuff.

@dpwiz It's difficult to enforce, and it'll only making creating the changelog more confusing if only I do it
