@Laurelai yes we actually *do* have the capability to solve the technical issue: authenticated object fetches. they exist today, you just have to switch them on.

@kaniini The comparison isn't quite right. While I can block obnoxious gabber and kiwitards, I can't block the US giving itself the ability to kidnap and hold me or anyone else in the world indefinitely without trial (I do agree some of the rhetoric over this in parts of the fediverse is overstaying its welcome)
