       @sir definitely better in my opinion, but the full-width still feels off to me.

       @sir hire a contract designer. They will do a 1000x better job.

       @sir you set the spec, you approve the results. Tell them no JS. Delegate what you are bad at. I’m the same, outsourcing design was a huge win for me.

       @mperham I have seen exactly zero professionally designed web pages which come close to what I want for sourcehut. They simply don't know how to make web designs like that.

       @sir 🤷‍♂️ any good designer can follow the spirit/ethos of an existing design but it sounds like you are not interested in verifying that.

       @mperham I don't have the budget to waste on a dozen designers looking for the gem in the rough which can actually design things without the poison of the modern web

       @sir@cmpwn.com Do you have the CSS shared anywhere? I wouldn't mind playing around with it for a little bit.

       @distant it's a bit of a mess to be honest, but here's the branch:https://git.sr.ht/~sircmpwn/sourcehut.org/tree/blog-and-redesign

       @sir@cmpwn.com (Nice, that's the first time I've managed to successfully clone an individual git tree without having to DuckDuckGo it!)My first thought is that I think that this screenshot was the best positioning-wise, its biggest problem was that the padding wasn't consistent.https://cmpwn.com/@sir/102663921021496804(Also God, Hugo butchers directory layouts. It's taken me like a minute to get a grasp on everything.)

       @distant I did a little work to make the margins consistent throughout. Does that look better?

       @sir@cmpwn.com Yeah! Maybe a little bit thick, though; the thin blue border looked great.If you're not totally against the blog being below the infobox, could I recommend putting it there with the same border you have on the buttons (obviously just on the top & bottom, though)? A bit of sourcehut's design that I love is that every colored section has an outline; it makes it look really clean & helps the colors pop.

       @sir@cmpwn.com Speaking of, is there any reason you don't have it with #0069d9 instead of the weird, uncharacteristic gradient from #007bff to #303cc7? Solids work really well on the site, and it doesn't make a ton of sense to have a gradient there.

       @sir@cmpwn.com And I understand in theory having the shadow should make the text more readable, but comparing it with and without makes the one without look far better & more consistent. (Maybe pick a slightly heavier font-weight instead if readability was the aim?)

       @distant I've gone back and forth on the gradient. Nixing it for now, I think it looks better without at this point. Below the infobox was tried and wasn't great

       @sir@cmpwn.com I saw below the infobox (that's the one I linked in my post, actually); it may just be that I'm on a smaller screen, but it looked fine? The only problem I noticed was that it wasn't separated cleanly so gave off an uncanny vibe.

       @sir@cmpwn.com Oh, I messed up the button color; the one I mentioned was the color it goes to when highlighted. Which is the regular one? The CSS file is...surprisingly complex for such a simple design.

       @sir@cmpwn.com Fair.Whatever it ends up as, the text color on "From the blog >" should probably be changed with it.

       @sir@cmpwn.com #007bff reminds me of Go's color scheme; was that intentional?Just checked their website, and their blue-tint is #007d9c, so it's a really nice coincidence, if so, and good job if not; it's a really nice color.
