@dirb It's open source. Just not Free Culture. These are tangentially related things, but they are different with different set of considerations. Even with non-free assets, you still have the four freedoms RMS lists off.

@Dolus but it would be the same game without the assets. you just need to swap the assets on them to get a total different game, that the point of those engines. it would be almost like saying that web games are open source because the "engines" they are running on are open source

@dirb Except in the case of the GPL the Hedon dev has been releasing everything besides the assets. Even scripts. You could always replace the assets. Hell, I think you could replace half of them with Free Doom assets.

@Dolus @dirb sound interesting. I have no problem with propietary assets. Every assets for doom engines could be created or edited by free software and that is like "free as in freedom" assets.

@dirb @Dolus I am not on doom assets creation but quake games requires also programming in quakeC to be able to use these assets and its not part of it. No idea how assets are built on doom based games

@mela_sapiens @dirb @Dolus tbh u dont wana use traditional tools for doom editing. they are old as hell dos tools. like deu. not easy to make maps with that it takes forever cus u have to set everything like even wat sectors are on each side of every linedef and u have to do everything manually. modern editors are much easier and do half of the annoying confusing shit for you
