An emerging pattern is the support for BDS - Boycott, Divest, Sanction- against Israel. Given that President Trump has taken pains to love Israel more than any President before him (why that is is a topic for another post), given that so many on the Left hate everything he likes (Orange Man Bad), and given that a small but visible and vocal part of the Left's vendetta coalition are Islamists who hate Israel, this presents a potential split in the Left's coalition.Obviously this cannot stand and equally obviously unconditional support for Israel and the broader Jewish people must continue to be American policy. It will be instructive how the Powers That Be suppress BDS and the BDS adherents.

@judgedread They system becomes more unstable as this goes on. Suppose the blunted support allows another four years of Orange Man, the fringes will be frothing. A hard problem for them to solve is that the fringes cannot be trusted with the details of the plan. They need the fringes but they need them ignorant and obedient as well. Threading this needle gets harder as time goes along, more people on every side get more polarized/radicalized.A thing to look for is a persistent anti-System faction that causes problems. Trump has solved this on the Right by force of personality - the dissidents are driven underground - but there's no such figure on the Left.
