Messaging Score Card:Delta Chat - no video/voice chat, notifications broken on android 9, otherwise is a pretty solid experience Briar - text only messages, no voice/videoWire - All the features you could want, can be unreliable, centralized and not selfhostable, current form is in danger of changing Orr going away due to acquisition (IMO)

@jlelse interesting... Do you have Google services? I'm not sure of that would make a difference or not. I didn't think Delta chat used gcm either way.

@kelbot Yes I have, but I doubt DC is using GCM/FCM. But your problem probably has to do with battery optimization. Maybe take a look at their forum. ☺️

@jlelse already have, posted on a thread where someone else has the same issue. Battery optimization is turned off like it is supposed to be.

@jlelse Yes, I've used it before successfully with the same email. Just now after upgrading to android 9 I'm having issues.

@jlelse Its not even that it isn't receiving the message. If you open Delta chat the message is already there. No notification happens though which is the problem.

@kelbot Is there a way with Delta Chat to prevent the downgrade to unencrypted chat when another party uses a different client?

@kelbot They tout that adaptability as a selling point but it always struck me as dangerous.

@kelbot Are you planning on messing with #matrix?

@jiminycricket I have a matrix account and use it a little. From my understanding the server is pretty heavy so I haven't really considered selfhosting it.

@kelbotI dropped #wire because I had less savvy users allowing wire to upload their entire addressbook and wire refused to delete it from there servers. They would then spam those users' contacts with auto connect requests. Additionally, wire was totally unreliable without Google Cloud Messaging (gplay services). I got suckered into using it because it's creators are original #skype creators (before M$ bought it) and they knew how to make UI's @kelbot - 1/2
