Browsing random movies on Netflix, I ran into on called The Great Hack. Has anyone seen it that has thoughts to share? Worth the time to watch?

@mike I haven't watched it, but it's on my list of things to watch. #1 in fact.

@fatboy @mike I just watched it last night to see what all the buzz was about. It was well-done. It did a good job showing the extent and impact of surveillance capitalism, and how it is used to manipulate individuals and elections.Worth a watch, but as you do, it's interesting to be mindful of the techniques the film uses to manipulate the way you see the world. It leverages fear and anger just as much as Cambridge Analytica and various political campaigns have.

@mike I watched half of it a week or so ago, but it dragged on, so turned it off in the end.

@mike it’s an okay watch - but the 2hrs could have been compressed to 20min.

@mike It's not something that I think that the users of Mastodon would be surprised about. - Mostly about how Cambridge Analytica helped manipulate people via Facebook... But it's a bit slow. I think that over all it's worth watching. I think it goes without saying that the general masses aren't aware of their manipulation. - Once everyone is aware of it, there might be a way to slow it down or prevent it.

@mike watched it the other day, I thought it was pretty decent. Id also like to suggest Shining Armor (I think that was the name). It was about creating a knights armor.

@mike And all.. I finally finished watching The Great Hack on Netflix. So, I have to say that in the end, it's a bit depressing. To think that 30 years ago when I was running my BBS and connecting to people via computers that it would morph into things like Facebook... The data compilation, manipulation of others.
