I got Prey installed on my phone, just in case I lost it, but it turns out it's pretty fucking useless.it has an option to send messages. the default text to show suggests it's to say something to the person who found it. but it only shows after you unlock the screen, which is locked by a password or fingerprint...

@rnickson Nextcloud has an app on fdroid: PhoneTrack. You need a nextcloud server to use it.I haven't used it, so I can't vouch for it.

@rnickson Just search for "Lock screen message" under settings. It works exactly how you would like it. (Android 8 on Nokia 3)

@rnickson FindMyPhone works well for me. It sends coordinates through SMS in response to a preconfigured code. The UI is ugly but it works well.FindMyPhone (Helps you find a mislaid phone) - https://f-droid.org/app/se.erikofsweden.findmyphone
