I think my biggest concern for the fediverse is this. With instances blocking each other, growth among the mainstream will be harmed. Is it distributed if everyone is blocking each other? Old social media and Twitter had an appeal because everyone knew each other, while the Fediverse at times can feel like "people banned from other social media sites" and one needs to look at Pawoo, political instances, or now Gab to prove this point.

@Splendid Oh definitely, I'm never fucking going back to Twitter. Twitter is a total trashfire of a site, I'm guessing now that the fediverse has more people it'll feel comfy using it again like some smaller forum back in the day.

@parisc who cares about mainstream. this network is not new. it's been going fine without normies for a decade. >while the Fediverse at times can feel like "people banned from other social media sites" i doubt anyone on spc even uses other socmed sites.this is just one big protocol that people happen to share. nothing more.

@AnkoIt's definitely something to watch for sure, especially since the foss nature of the fediverse and any possible forks could fuck over the people who only give a shit about foss/federations so they can power trip. What's the point of escaping Twitter if you're going to make a site even worse than it?I've heard of similar fragmentation going on with Riot as well, but fewer people use that.

@pariscI think you are worrying to muchSome communities on here, like the ones that block everybody, have an expiration date. We need only wait for them to die off and carry on. Thats the price they pay for their accelerated growth. Notice how all those hugboxy mastodon servers are mostly full of derelict accounts. People hear about it, check it out, and leave all the time. Just blocking everything is unsustainable and eventually only we will remain@Anko

@dielanLike I mentioned elsewhere I hadn't used the fediverse in a while so I'm going off what I had observed from who used it in 2017 and drama I've noticed. Being exposed to nonstop drama can turn someone off a platform and it turned me off as well. That's why I made an account to dip my toes in it again.@Anko
