urls often contain tracking information added to the end of them. when you are linking articles, stuff like the "utm_source" and "fbclid" sections allow people to track where you got the link from and how you are spreading it. this allows cops & corps to map out social groups.while you can remove that stuff by hand, there's a firefox/chrome addon called "neat URL" that comes with an existing blocklist that automatically cleans off a lot of that stuff.

@anotak@tessellated.spacewhy does the net suck so fucking much nowadays, so much isn't even human readable except when it doesn't serve the user first.

@anotak Nice suggestion! I'm using Clear URLs, but this one seems to be pretty good as well.https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/clearurls/

@anotak Remove tracking tags AND make urls less ugly and shorter. Win-win!

@anotak sometimes I like to mess with those. Like find their campain tokens for twitter/facebook and spoof a referrer, so it looks like someone’s getting to a current campaign from an old campaign token, fucking up their stats :3 After working with some BDMs, i know that this can really, REALLY upset certain types of folks :3
