I keep forgetting that I grabbed mastodon.dev, but I'm not sure what the best use for it would be

@Gargron why is just a test server bad? Some people like to be on the beta channel.

@Gargron use it for running cutting edge versions and stop having m.s be a place where you test unfinished features like when polls were first launched

@garbados Well here's the thing... mastodon.social already gets the bleeding-edge stuff. docs.joinmastodon.org already has the docs.

@Gargron +1 to the several people who've said "bleeding edge test server". It seems like it would be nice to have a small, opt-in test server for code changes before they hit mastodon.social in an official release

@Gargron i haven't looked at docs.joinmasto in a minute. pet peeve of it requiring js to function aside, the breadth of these docs are good 👍 regarding bleeding-edge stuff, imagine this scenario: "hey everyone, mastodon.dev is running a patch that adds support for polls (just as an example). check it out and let me know what you think! here's the associated PR: [link]"

@Gargron A technical overview of how Mastodon/ActivityPub works would also be a nifty thing to host there. Something kinda like what the Dat project does?https://datprotocol.github.io/how-dat-works/

@Gargron Leave mastodon.social on the latest stable release and use mastodon.dev for unstable features not officially released.

@Gargron @garbados So let's mastodon.social only run stable versions and .dev unstable versions. Something I always recommended.

@gargron if nothing better comes to mind, redirect to the code-repo or give a short link-list of dev-related resources (repo, docs, translations, guidelines,…)
