I like how in this picture of the spanish civil war, the dresses seem function as camouflage.#photography

@fitheach The hat not I think, I'm don't think the dress is a uniform, but it might be planned.

@webmind Looking at images online the hat is absolutely typical issue for the Milicianas. I'm not finding any other images with that particular dress. However, photos of women in dresses is, surprisingly, very common. You're right though, in that setting the dress does make quite good camouflage. That is probably a staged photo. The woman kneeling is holding (what looks like) a double-barreled side-by-side double-trigger shotgun. An unusual combat weapon, and not much use at a distance.

@fitheach Maybe, but there was a lot of 'use what you can get hold of' during the Spanish civil war.

@fitheach more militias in light coloured dresses. Could also be a tactical choice with the heat/sun.https://libcom.org/files/images/Spain-women.jpg

@webmind Sure, but rifles didn't seem to be in short supply (from the images I've looked at).

@fitheach I can recommend the movie Libertarias from 1996 btw.Don't really care about staged to be honest, it's hard enough to take photos during war time.

@webmind No, I can imagine. Dangerous, too.
