I have a friend who's trans, and she frequently gets read as being autistic. She's about to come out, and she's wondering how that presentation might intersect with other forms of prejudice (particularly transmisogyny) on a day-to-day basis. If you have anything you'd like to share, I'd love to pass it along, or if you prefer I could connect you with her to talk directly. Thanks! @vy I don't think being trans and autistic intersects much for me in terms of societal treatment but living as a woman and being autistic intersect heavily. Women are expected to be sociable and polite and socially normative far more than men and social mistakes or oddities related to autism are more heavily punished as a woman. And a lot of my interests and talents aren't see as womanly.

@vy Oddly enough, as a bit of a mixed blessing. We of course get the shitty-ass cat calls on occasion (from chasers if we don't "pass", and cishets if we do), but on the flipside spectrum traits are more likely to simply get passed off as shyness in someone parsed as feminine (which eases social expectations somewhat).

@vy depending on how she's both read by society and how(if) meds make changes things might be different. Things I could and couldn't do were different. The ways I handle stress are different. There's no knowing if they're hormone related or experience related or delearning. a lot of different behaviors are more acceptable with men. This applies doubly so.

@vy women are put into wards at a higher rate. Reasonable self advocacy is punished unless the male ego at the other end of the conversation is properly sated. Women are expected to handle multiple tasks at the same time more easily (even if it were possible, I find context switching to be a huge pain point for my executive functioning)'Women's work' is typically very organizational and communication...

To be clear: She isn’t autistic, she’s just frequently read that way.
