Up to 4 Tesla’s in my neighborhood. They do look nice.

@jerryI'd definitely consider one if I didn't make semi-regular trips further than their max range and also didn't already have a good car.

@architect @jerry They're a lot of money, too. I'd like to see a lot more infrastructure for EVs but I am sure it's coming. The other thing is they're more than capable of the vast majority of duties a regular car is, but it's those edge cases which really mount up. A couple of years ago I looked at the bike offerings https://sullybiker.wordpress.com/2017/08/09/our-friends-electric/

@sullybiker @architect @jerry I've got a Nissan Leaf, nicest car I've ever owned. However there is a guy round the corner with a Tesla. He watches me as I walk the kids to school. I'm not a 'car' person but I stare every time! The Nissan is also the only car I've ever owned😉

@ddench @sullybiker @architect Leafs (leaves?) were pretty popular in my area until a few years ago. The state of Georgia gave a tax break that effectively made owning a leaf free (assuming one paid enough taxes). I was going to buy one, then they ended the program, I got a dog and ended up with the biggest SUV I could buy. Didn’t go as planned.

@sullybiker @jerry @architect what infrastructure are you referring to? EVs are so much nicer. Wake up every morning with a full charge and on long road trips you're never far away from a high powered plug. Even in the wilderness. (hint: there's an RV park within 100 miles of basically everywhere in the USA and they have 30/50a hookups you can use to charge your car quickly)

@feld @architect @sullybiker I have read that Tesla’s will map a route with stops at supercharger stations and tell how long to expect the trip to take, including recharges. Seems about as good as one can do until we can charge a battery at the same rate we can fill a gas tank.

@feld @jerry @architect @sullybiker afaik there aren't any EVs with enough clearance to get to any wilderness that i'm interested in.like, this guy has trouble with some of the "roads" that i take up to my favorite trailheads and lakes:k64515-2017-f250-f350-icon-stag…

@jerry @sullybiker @architect here's how it works:1) pull up to supercharger with 10%, plug in2) walk inside grocery store or to the restaurants nearby, go to the restroom, order a bite to eat3) your phone is alerting you that your charge is nearly complete before your order is readyPeople forget that you have no reason to go to one of these chargers except on a road trip, and on a road trip you will stop for a short break. Nobody I've ever met drives like a long haul trucker and wants to go 8 hours without stopping. A solid 2.5 and I'm spent and need to stretch my legs and hit the head.- model 3 owner, over 20k miles since Oct 1 2018

@feld @jerry @architect In my case I mean city living; as of now you need a parking spot with access to electricity or a charger; for most around here that means a garage or at least a house with a dedicated spot. Work has EV parking but it's limited.

@sullybiker @architect @jerry yeah I would not advise buying an EV without a way to charge at home. We need more laws to prevent landlords from stopping you from installing charging infrastructure. Very few states are on top of this
