My new Thinkpad x1 has the 1440p screen, a really nice touchpad, and the i7 processor. Editing video away from my desk might be very doable.I could do it on my x230 but that screen made it really hard and I'd almost always need a USB mouse to work.I'm spoiled now and I don't think I could ever go back.

Okay! Rendering a 6 minute clip took 16 minutes. 1920x1080 24fps webm. Also killed 10% of the battery. Might want to limit my rendering to when I have an outlet. Not bad, though.

@art I have been pretty happy with thinkpads for sure; ESP with Linux in 'em.Since you are doing video, do you have something besides an Intel GPU (can't remember if they were upgradable)?

@PresGas Nope. Integrated only. There is a way to setup quick-sync by building it into ffmpeg, but I keep hitting issues with loading ffmpeg in the App Image version of Kdenlive. If I figure it out I'll def share!

@art really, 16 minutes for an FHD render of a 6min doesn't sound that bad, you probably already have the throttling optimized.

@art maybe you could switch to a performance cpu profile (I use TLP, but there's other ways) to prevent throttling. It seems counter intuititive, but it actually get's the render done faster and might end up using less battery - results vary though. There's actually a school of thought that all throttling (aside from thermal throttling which can't be helped) is detrimental on a laptop. You may already be aware of all this... but it might help, if not.
