@satanya while I don't doubt there being actual CP on fedi, I don't know if anyone has blocked those instances :bloblul:

@satanya There's actual cp yeah, or at least stuff so close that you'd want to avert your eyes anyway. Most of those instances seem to keep mostly to themselves it seems though.

@satanya I've got absolutely 0% clue about tor instances. I'm pretty sure that the darknet fedi doesn't actually exist at this point, but who knows. I at least haven't personally heard of any darknet-exclusive instances at least.Since they can't federate directly with us anyway, whatever goes on there isn't much of an issue to us. I doubt it's anything too interesting though.

@wizard @satanya I wonder why you think they can't federate. Can't you access clearnet through tor? And can't you post to fedi normally through a tor domain that points to your instance?

@hyphen @wizard @satanya indeed, they can federatehere's an example http://lolifuggzi5axn2rmbk44u55zk3zjnbs4vhcruifrgyfpk6mwm4okuad.onion/main/all

@7even @hyphen @satanya I mean, that's just neckbeard.xyz, it's got a clearnet version so ofc it federatesI'm talking about strictly onion routed instances. They shouldn't federate directly with everyone else.

@wizard@welovela.in @7even@pleroma.soykaf.com @hyphen@anime.website @satanya@satania.space I don't know about what's in the "deep web" but it seems like a terrible idea to me to use fediverse software for "not-so-legal" activity, whatever it is (opsec, illegal markets, or whatever).I don't even think Ruby is 100% safe from exploits, let alone node. Not to mention Pleroma has a lot of flaws that will probably lead to security holes in the future. Also I tried loging into that onion with Tor browser and it won't allow you to use it unless you set the lesser security mode which allows non-https javascript (because it's http over tor I guess and tor browser is being herp derp with it).

@wizard @7even @satanya yeah it's just that I'm not really sure what's the distinction you're trying to draw; what would prevent an onion-only instance from federating?

@hyphen @7even @satanya The fact that only other onion instances would be able to see them directly. Statuses could probably be boosted out of there from clearnet and onion routed instances, but other than that they'd be pretty self contained.They federate, but not much with the rest of us is what I'm trying to say.

@wizard @7even @satanya so you're saying I can do everything I'd do with a normal remote instance, except viewing things right from that remote instance?sounds like enough federating to me tbhfam

@hyphen @7even @satanya Yes, ofc an onion routed instance federates, but doesn't directly federate with the clearnet fedi. Another instance with a clearnet and tor address running would have to act as a bridge to boost stuff out of there. That's what I meant in that first post by "federate directly." Clearnet servers can't do anything with them on their own.

@hyphen @7even @satanya Also you won't be able to follow a darknet fedi user from a clearnet server, nor could you view their attatchments unless they're cached elsewhere, nor could you respond to their threads, etcetc. It's pretty one way.

@wizard @7even @satanya I still don't get it though. I woulda assumed that the AP protocol (API?) will work like a middle-man between instances to ensure flow of info.

@hyphen @satanya @7even AP isn't distributed, just federated. Communication has to happen directly between servers and then gets pushed out from there to anyone that subscribes to that info. Info can get cached if people like or boost stuff, but that's abt it. Other than that, like you said requests to onion sites will just fail, as with the regular net.So anyway to pull it way back to the beginning, as far as I know there's no large darknet fediverse out there. I've never seen anyone post from an onion address before so I can only assume from that.
