@kemonine no, absolutely not sarcasm. i'm tired of packagers just changing shit willy nilly without asking. freedombone has fundamentally broken Pleroma's default behaviour with this whitelist crap and i regret ever adding whitelist mode to mrf_simple.

@kaniini Would you prefer I abandon Debian #930619? (Intent to package michabo). https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=930619I have closed ITP bugs with "upstream really doesn't want there to be a package" before.

@kaniini Arch Linux at least doesn't tamper with my packages and editing PKGBUILDs is easy. It's a shame really. Either you end up running a rolling release distro that shits the bed every few months or you end up with a "stable" distro which presets configurations and makes it a pain to change any of them (or tamper with packages to _backport security fixes and features_ instead of just updating the package.)That last one is why I hate Debian.

@noirscape#Arch is really good. Prolly the best docs available for anyone lifting the hood. Friends don't let friends run #ewboontew!#Debian Testing does hiccup here and there, and things tend to get fixed sooner in #Sid than Testing. As a rolling release distro with very few problems, and also one that does it's very utmost to include upstream the way the devs intended, is #Slackware. You should give it a whirl: https://bit.ly/2Xwv00l 🍔@kaniini

@kaniini Well, it's not really that simple. Thanks to docker/flatpack, things like this (https://snyk.io/blog/top-ten-most-popular-docker-images-each-contain-at-least-30-vulnerabilities/) are becoming the norm, that is people using docker to package some application without taking care to maintain the underlying stack. Remember that when you offer "official docker images", you are also responsible for maintaining them / keeping them updated. I personally would not take that burden on lightly, I'd rather thank GOD for the distros security team.

@kaniini That being said, I agree with you on principal that distro maintainers tend to inject a lot of unnecessary modifications into application behavior that are often not coordinated well with upstream (we all remember https://www.debian.org/security/2008/dsa-1571)

@ck all I'm asking is for people to not break apps:- don't ship audacious with half the codecs missing- don't ship blender if it cannot render an MPEG- don't ship Pleroma with a default configuration that limits it to the packager's personal allowed instances
