As mentioned earlier I'm doing some testing of various "chat" apps/protocols.Included on my list are:* Wire* Jitsi* Matrix using RiotA web interface is a requirement. Nice to have voice, video & file transfer (maybe also E2E). Signal is out, registering with phone app is a dealbreaker.Any others I should consider?

@fitheach Ah. I think it's probably easier to implement strong crypto without using a web interface.I normally abhor 'apps' as they are usually simply replacing the flexible interface of web browser with a walled garden, but I made an exception for GNU Ring/jami.It's easily installed on every platform I've tried, but I'm not a fan of its interface frankly. But then, I write gui's that others have me change and i don't adapt well to some gui's that everyone else likes!

In no particular order I'm trying Matrix via riot.im first.I had to register to look around, and that required using reCAPTCHA (grrr). The interface looks clean and understandable, except none of the buttons have any icons. Eh?Clicking around doesn't seem to result in lightening fast responses. Maybe I've chosen a busy time.More to come...#Matrix

@fitheach #Conversejs (.org) is web client for #xmpp with #omemo available (click green pad)If you want to use omemo it has to be available on BOTH clients You may try movim.eu, but I'm not sure if it supports omemo on its web/browser interface. Their server has it and works fine with android client.jami.net is worth you consider it, NO web client, but it has clients for all platforms, really decentralized and FSF endorsed@kawaiipunk

@xosem Thanks for the suggestions. I'll need to research first before further comment. The web i/f is crucial, here is why. The target users are all non-techie types to whom software freedom is not a passing consideration. They use FB and WhatsApp because it was probably pre-installed, and *all* their friends use them. A web interface allows them to try a new "service" without installing. If they like the new service, and see benefits, *then* an installation can be contemplated.@kawaiipunk

@fitheach #Conversations for Android is one of the best (in terms of quality) applications I have used. There is Gajim for desktops & laptops; Dino is up and coming but only for Linux just now.As other's mentioned there are web-apps too. Also check out Movim.eu which has a very pleasant web interface on-top of XMPP and has groups and news too.
