@TheGibson I'm not sure if I have a /my/ people. When I was at the lowest points in my life resolving to help other people generally pulled me back up and out of them and kept me fairly well off.I guess if I have a my people it's probably autodidacts generally. I view learning stuff as inherently worthwhile and enjoy helping people do so quite an awful lot.

@thegibson listen, it's a nice idea, but I'm sure that if I had a people they'd have let me know by nowI have no peopleI am but another drifting speck of dust, as we all areand sometimes it's actually kind of okaybut I don't have a "people" and the more I want to imagine I do, the more real life proves to me that I don'tso

@thegibson If I have any “people” I’d say it’s the crazy fucks that decided to make the jump and immigrate to this crazy place. Or at least stay for a while. Especially the ones met from $oldjob and through people from $oldjob.Navigating the systems here, especially bureaucratic ones, can be a bit overwhelming at first, along with dodging the sleaze balls that like to prey on immigrants. I had people to help me, so it just makes sense to pass that help on when possible. How has it helped me out? I guess if I ever take the plunge and get a boat and start doing fishing charters and island hopping tours, I know plenty of people that would make great helmsmen and deck hands. And guests for my kid’s birthday parties. And people to bitch with in my native tongue. That last one is the most important.

@thegibsonI used to think I had "my people".I still have people I do things with, talk to, enjoy the company of, etc. But I don't think of it as anything exclusive. There are roughly 7.6 billion people on this rock. I don't rely on any of them any more than I need to. That's not a bad thing.
