       @greg stow is exceptional. normally i dont like what gnu do to little tools, but the stuff they come up with themselves (as far as i know) is all pretty good.stow is probably in the top 3 most loved things ive installed on my computer.

       @twee yes, absolutely. i haven't managed to figure out a good way of using it to store dotfiles, but i do install everything that's not in the main debian repo through it, like actually contemporary versions of #emacs

       @greg well shameless self plug: https://git.sr.ht/~twee/eunoiai just do a very generic subdirectory for each application/set of applications/files i want to put together, and then replicate my directories inside. so it's a bit verbose, but very easy to know where everything is going to go.
