@ohyran I came up with basically the same idea a few years ago and was deemed insane by anyone I shared it with.

@qwazix well it would help the religious right to marry their ideals with modern family planning :)

@ohyran seems pretty terrifying 😆 . Doesn't it have side effects to get sterilized? Also, who holds the sperm? The government?

@Matter well no the only side effects to sterlization in men is "no sperm coming out" - everything is still intact and pumping out testosterone and all that.Who would hold the sperm? I have no idea. Depends on where you live I guess.Either way, its easier than sterilizing women

@Matter sterilization for men isn't that uncommon now btw and their done by people who think they have enough kids, or don't want more - and so they don't have to fuss around with condoms etc when sleeping with their wives. The big thing is castration anxiety of course - and that is tricky. Since its still kinda taboo too there is little discussion about it which is sad as it is fairly common.

@ohyran What about just giving people welfare state and social rights so everyone can grow a child?

@ohyran I think the clear issue with this is how colonization and eugenics among many governments have often sterilized PoC, disabled people, trans people etc behind the false, statistically speaking, idea of "combating overpopulation". S'just control of people govs don't regard as people. It's not that so many people being born is ruining the world, it's that a very small percentage of companies are fucking it up.

@ohyran Should people with penises be more aware of protection & willing vasectomies, yep! And as a society that has to be pushed going forward. But there's no way to control people's reproductive organs. Specificially not by governments. There's a history there. We've seen this idea before in different ways, and it is never applied in a non heinous way.

@ohyran I think "for funsies" when trans people with penises in various countries are forced to have vasectomies to progress isn't fairThe notion that human reproduction must be curtailed has some deep problems. Disabled people, PoC, trans folk have had that enforced on them by authorities in many many countries, and still do to this dayTeaching safe, responsible methods of sex, is indeed important, but that's different from controlling sexual organs of all people

@ohyran I think the problem here is that you're trivializing it because you're using the term "for funsies". Instead of expressing it in a way which gives a punch where it's needed and belongs (up). Try to use this as a teaching moment instead of defending your word choice. "what if these white men making these choices in the behalf of women took the first step by having a vasectomy". See the difference here? @OsirisSaline

@ohyran that said, and I'm untagging Osiris here because they left, this anti abortion law isn't about not having babies irresponsibly, it's literally for them to stay in power by keeping more white babies in rotation (and yes, I'm using this crude language, because it's called for).White voters are about to lose their majority in the US, and that's where these laws are coming from, because white women aren't having enough kids.

@maloki The core argument was that the only people who will LOSE by not having forced sterilization globally are white people - as we populate the areas of the earth with longest life expectancy. People of colour will pay the highest price as they will die first (which we've already seen happening in large scale). You and I are safeish in this status quo, since we're white and live in Northern Europe, but we do so on the backs of everyone else.

@ohyran But then maybe you should've phrased the whole thing differently? And talked about the research etc? That's not what you were talking about you see. It rather just looked like you were playing devil's advocate, and you actually made someone leave the fediverse because of "funsies", you see?
