       Nichols’ rantings on Twitter about expertise have always bothered me.  I’m not opposed to experts, per se, but relying exclusively on experts has its own dangers.  Experts are human and can be behind in their research and worse, groupthink and politics can infect expert opinion (think global warming).

       I haven’t read Tom Nichols’ book on the death of expertise (on purpose), but his thesis seems to me to be a variation of argumentum ad verecundiam (the logical fallacy of appeal to authority).  I believe it is dangerous and pedantic to reject all non “expert” opinion or to elevate expert opinion to levels of supposed infallibility.

       @Banzai @ThomasWic I skimmed excerpts. I also followed/interacted with Nichols on Twitter back when I was Never Trump. You have nailed exactly what he is all about: telling the unwashed masses to shut up and listen to the 'experts'.  He's been on a two year rant that the reason we got Trump is that the blue collar uneducated idiots out there 'fell' for Trump's con game.He's a true blue DC Swamp creature.

He's too stupid to connect the dots that Trump is playing everyone on Twitter while the real work is getting done behind the scenes. If Trump fixes all these impossible situations around WITHOUT consulting these pseudo-experts like him and Samantha Power, it will render people like him....irrelevant.  Yet, he will go to his grave thinking Trump just fell down the stairs landing on his feet.
