@nerthos @roka I just don't understand it, for the first time in thousands of years Europeans aren't murdering each other, yet people choose to jeopardize this union, it just seems contradictory.I try to relate this to the situation of my country and region here, where we were always meant to be one big Central American Union, but due to interest of the oligarchies that had control of the land the countries were separated, our independence as 5 different countries was nothing but a big lie all the time, split apart by personal interest of a few dozen families. People around here want more integration, at least in the 4 poorest countries of the region.

@orekix @roka The thing is, despite the peace Europe is held together by cryptoimperialism, as a direct result of a war of expansion on several fronts. Many countries there were split up or redefined by foreign powers, their cultures supressed. The tensions following WWII caused the empires to be hegemonic rather than official, but they were still there until not too long ago.It makes a lot of sense for individual countries to put their identity and rights above continental unity, specially for those that lost a lot in the war and had to put up with generations of authoritarism. The fact that the EU in recent years has done a lot to try to control cultural aspects and domestic policy of its members, as well as try to impose "multiculturalism" to the detriment of tradition and cultural identity really doesn't help, it feels like yet another, albeit more discrete, foreign tyranny.Precisely because of all the war and several attempts from many countries to erase eachother it is that many people have made it a core part of their ideology to defend that identity regardless of consequence.Think of it like this: would you rather have you and your neighbors live in small yet customized to taste houses, or in one big and sturdy, yet open and homogeneous barrack divided only by cloth screens? More so, when some of those neighbours have tried to take your stuff before.
