For those who aren't aware, David Cameron held a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union and lost. It's since claimed the jobs of two prime ministers and caused four years of political and economic turmoil.Theresa May didn't help herself either by thinking a snap election in 2017 would give her a stronger majority than she inherited from David Cameron. Her majority was wiped out and she was forced into coalition with DUP & held to ransom by her own backbenchers.

What's going to happen now? Well, your guess is as good as mine tbh.We know Theresa May will stay on until the Tory party leadership contest is over. That means she'll still technically be Prime Minister when Donald Trump does his state visit on 3rd June.(It can not be understated just how little the British public have taken to the current US president. But our establishment basically has to roll out the red carpet for him because we need a post-Brexit trade deal)

I also kind of wish I could have more sympathy for Theresa May getting emotional during her resignation speech, but the harsher policies her government implemented didn't seem to illicit the same reaction from her.* UN report claims 14 million people now living in relative poverty, and many now rely on food banks* Dying and disabled often treated like scroungers & wrongly denied welfare* Wrongly detained, deported or denied citizenship to the Windrush generation

@a_breakin_glass indeed, the finite character limit screwed me on that one. It was very much Theresa May as home secretary followed by Theresa May as prime minister that was responsible for the Windrush scandal. In typical British media fashion, the outrage only lasted a news cycle and she kept her job. 🤦‍♂️

@TreacherousNexus could news media really possess itself to be outraged at it for more than a short while? I doubt it
