hey what the fuck is the point of netflix if they //remove// stuff. they HAVE it, obviously, but they won't give it to me, even though i am paying for itincredible bandwidth, unlimited storage, and we used it to invent a library with a fucking rotating catalogue. jesus christ

@eevee corporate streaming is about licenses. you don't buy a movie, you buy the rights to watch the movie. capitalism and copyright are evil.

@eevee They decided to spend their billions licensing/developing low-quality nonsense out of fear they would lose out on licenses for better stuff to other companies.Little did they know their self-protective strategy would make people run away. I'm glad HBO didn't make the same mistake. They have fewer and better shows. Game of Thrones probably cost as much as 50 average "Netflix originals."

@Kye @eevee I'm annoyed when they call stuff that they didn't make themselves "Netflix Originals", like the CBC's Anne (which they renamed "Anne with an E") or Hi Score Girl, which they're just redistributing.

@aflightybroad @Kye @eevee I'm guessing it's because they bought the rights, which is what they need to be allowed to keep redistributing it indefinitely. When Netflix started streaming, the rights owners that licensed stuff to Netflix thought streaming would never catch on so they didn't care. Now that it has caught on, everyone is trying to take back their piece of the pie.I wonder for how long will we tolerate a bunch of streaming services, each with an incomplete catalogue.

@JordiGH @aflightybroad @Kye @eevee Wtf... they should look at software licenses for inspiration. It should be all "nonexclusive non-revocable", not some kind of "I want someone else to stream it so I have to take away your license" bullshit.

@pox @eevee a real fun thing about licensing movies is that some Netflix made stuff isn't on Netflix in certain countries because of the music rights
