@Gargron @Rude That's not the only post in the thread, it's a reply to something you posted.The criticism is the fact that you publish FOSS and seriously believe that your recommendations against certain people using it have weight. It's silly: that's the criticism here.It's also pretty dishonest to even try to deceive people that don't know much about FOSS about how it works, aka "Because they don't know I can't stop them". I doubt anyone is going to even seriously think that just because Gringo told them they can't use Mastodon they aren't allowed to use it, but on the off chance that someone does, you've contributed to misinformation.

@hasya23The only way to take control of who may or may not use it is to give up on federation and create a centralized service, then moderate it in that way.I'm not trying to be rude or sensational, I'm serious. There is no legal recourse for any foss devs or users to stop someone they don't like from creating an instance.Also forks of mastodon exist today. So even if gargron does this it wont stop them from using any of the forks. This isn't something that can realistically be taken back. Its simply too late.

Mastodon is the biggest slice of the fedi pie but that metric is inflated by ghost accounts of people who came with the mainstream media hype and left already. I think there's a 2017 medium article out there about who to follow that's almost all ghost accounts today lolIf they break AP federation they'll lose too much IMO. Its not just misskey and pleroma, but plume, peertube, funkwhale, pixelfed and more. While small now, all of these platforms just need a viral catalyst to really boom right now@hasya23
