@kaniini it prevents passive problems. of course it doesn't stop active problems.sure, blocking a cop isn't enough to stop an active investigation for a crime, but not sending all of your posts to a cop by default helps prevent passive scanning.plus, it's not about opsec, honestly. it's about a precedent of letting law enforcement know they are unwelcome in the fediverse.

@kaniini honestly though, I feel like this is just an "it's imperfect, therefore it's worthless" argument.it's like saying "why put a lock on your front door if they can just be picked"like sure, it's a pretty ineffective security measure. but in this case we pretty much clarified that it's mostly a cultural measure, and a desire to block, and that the security additions are nice.it's basically like locking your front door. don't tell people to not bother because they will anyway and it'll help
