This is bad for every Anarchist and we need to fight it, and find a way around it: https://broadbandnow.com/report/municipal-broadband-roadblocks/

@anarchygardenMunicipalities can decide to "donate" to a co-op of citizens that runs it. That works around every law and is consistent with seizing the means of communication.

@endomain or am I missing the point that if we get enough community owned infra connecting us then we can avoid dealing with the backbone providers? I need to get cost effect fiber laid in my street for my street and suburb, we get forced to use shitty copper here in Oz that is super flakey.

@anarchygarden If we can provide better local mile service, then we can worry about backbones later. We cannot tackle backbone networks locally anyways. Let's take one step at a time and make the last mile better.

@endomain yeah this is great. with suburban density, I'd love to get fibre in the street and fiber to the house. Managed/owned by a coop. After that we have bargaining power as you say once it's in the ground or established generally.

@anarchygarden I work for Google on their edge network team so I know what goes into that. And i will tell you right now that reproducing that will be beyond challenging. You do not want to use hard kung fu here. You simply cannot. The resources required to be competitive directly are too fast.Instead, we should think about how to create better and more compelling LOCAL solutions that gracefully and transparently degrade to the upper tier. Take what they think isn't valuable and make it valuable. Then instead of having bargaining power, we can reconsider the whole model.
