Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris is one of the most important symbolic sites in the Western world and of Christianity, and it's Holy Week. It's been well known for years that it would be a juicy target for the terrorists that pervade Europe and especially France. It's a sad day. But it will not break us. She can be rebuilt. We will never surrender, and we will win in the end.

@Debradelai @hejoural @GodlessNZ One of our Army family stops was in Fontainebleau from 1964-the Summer of 66. Our school was once the stables of the Chateaux. Our classes went on several field trips a year, mostly to Paris as it was only about 35 miles away. One of my fondest memories is no more of that once great city.But, I have the memories that nobody can ever take away. I'll spend my quiet moments remembering all the little things I was so fortunate to have lived.

Unless there is enough of the structure remaining to bring this classic back to life, I can't see building a "carbon copy" at that cost. Am I the only one that thinks that way?

Struck me when I saw ND in flames and hears "there was scaffolding."For now though, who knows how it started? All we do know is treasures were lost. But again, St. Lawrence comes to mind. When asked to hand over the treasury of the church to the government, he directed attention to the people. The building may be lost. The Church stands.

His concern was about lack of security & organization, too many people inside & poor crowd controlHe was not referring to terrorism, but to lack of organization in general for such valued treasure which can lead to all sorts of accidentsHe's also an engineer & has been in countless construction sites, accidents will happen at job sites

For me it means we don't need anymore to be glued to the idea of Armageddon (or the like), but need to go on for improvement (as Thomas says)
