I had gotten into a discussion on here with someone about this exact topic. Seems like it's a concern even at the top (Linus). Personally, I don't think the desktop is in trouble, but I guess that's just my opinion. Linux won the war for me a while ago (and now I'm dabbling in BSD-Land). But is the desktop still as important today as it once was?https://www.zdnet.com/article/the-linux-desktop-is-in-trouble/

@claudiom I don't think the desktop is nearly as important as it once was. More and more people are using their smartphones as their primary computing device. But making Linux consistent is probably the biggest hurdle holding it back.Though, I don't know if I really see that as a problem. That's part of the beauty of *nix. You get to pick what you want. That customisation isn't for everyone. And a large number of those people don't use a desktop daily anyway.

@CrowderSoup That's exactly my opinion, and it's what I love about *nix: choice. I know it's not for everyone, but *nix isn't for everyone, either. That's what macOS and ChromeOS/Android are for, even if they don't realize it.
