@sean Heck, I would offer but I'm android only too. You need someone with an iPhone.

@josef basically I need someone to try out clients and give their opinions on which ones the best are, what make them unique, what could be better. I'm thinking like 3-4 mobile clients tops. There's no rush or anything, I'm just trying to compile a guide of the best apps for Android and iOS, ranked. You'd get a writing credit for We Distribute.

@sean Might have time to pitch in. Is there a baseline feature set to check against?

@josef Good question, I haven't specified anything yet, but it's totally worth fleshing out some criteria!

@dansup @sean i can review both android and ios. this is what I've got so far:android: subway tooter does everything, tusky looks cleanest, fedilab has some cool features but lags a lot for meios: mast and toot are both fine but lacking functionality and configurability. mast is more configurable. honestly amaroq runs the best even if it's woefully out of date

@trwnh @dansup Yeah, I feel the same way about Amaroq, from when I used to have an iOS device. Really was my first taste of a "modern" fediverse app.

@sean @dansup more generally i've noticed a distinct lack of good libre options on ios. not just apps that are libre, i mean *any* app at all that supports libre networks. irc, xmpp, quassel, mastodon -- i haven't found any good apps for any of those. :(

@a_breakin_glass @dansup @trwnh Colloquy is quite good, but also seems to be largely unmaintained. On my work Macbook, I've taken to simply using irssi at this point.

@a_breakin_glass @sean @dansup chatsecure is incredibly plain and has severe ux issues, like a donate prompt interrupting your signup/signin flow and forcing new users to dig into the settings to add an accountthe only other option is monal, which isn't really better

@trwnh @a_breakin_glass @sean @dansup I just wanted to say Monal, seen it today.Developing for iOS is a huge pain and I'm not surprised not many people are willing to do that for free.

@charlag @a_breakin_glass @sean @dansup yeah, $99/year + buying a mac + learning xcode & swift? assuming your app even gets approved. and you can't even run background connections bc iOS will aggressively kill your processes so you have to write your own push notification daemon and register it with APNS

@sean It's Tusky.@Tusky is the only* fediverse client with tusks, so that's that solved.(* Subway Tooter also has tusks, but they're _small_, so they don't really count as more than big teeth.Okay, Toot! also has tusks, but not as Large and Impressive as Tusky's.)

@sean It be great if you could discuss, or at least mention this, in your reviews..... I’ve not used any fedverse client that allows you to read the timeline in the correct chronological order(old to new) scrolling towards the top of the timeline with Pleroma. @tootapp can do this with Mastodon but apparently Pleroma is missing something in the API that makes this difficult. Tho, Mast iOS client at one point almost had this working but doesn’t work now, either due to bugs or it was taken out.
