@ceejbot Did you ever get a modular rig going? I can feel my resistance weakening

@Borogove I did. And then I got depressed and spent half a year ignoring it. I need to fire it up again.So.Best rec I can give you is to buy very few things at any one time, because all together they're overwhelming. The *best* starter is a single semi-modular.

@Borogove The Behringer Neutron or one of the Moog semi-modulars are good choices. Also the MakeNoise 0-coast.With too many modules, the learning curve is too steep.

@Borogove You'll invest more in glue utility modules than you think. Clock, signal splitting & merging, mixing, output-- pay attention to how you build this, because not having the right tools will drive you mad.

@ceejbot I’ve played with modulars a bit (and developed soft synths) so I’m not too worried about learning curve.

@Borogove OKAY. My advice shifts.Cable management. You probably already know this one. Point about utility modules still stands. Never enough VCAs.Think about how you're gonna get OUT of the thing.

@ceejbot Karloff is interested in the 0-Coast; I’m not sold on it yet.

@Borogove It's interesting. You can probably skip it & move directly to more complex versions of all its parts. I'm kinda meh on the MakeNoise UX, personally, but I do like the Buchla inspiration.

@Borogove NO! I love the sounds. I just... can't turn them into pieces yet & it's frustrating. It is SUPER fun.

@ceejbot Well, I've already got that problem in spades with my existing synth collection. :)

@ceejbot but you stressed the importance of thinking about how to get signal out :) — I was attracted to the L-1 line for other reasons and the stereo mixer and vca/mixer looked powerful

@Borogove I totally need to do this. I stressed that to you because I had discovered my total failure to think about it was giving me fits. Can't pan, can't set levels. ARGH.
