I feel like not enough people focus on the fact that Germany wants to outlaw hosting Tor servers. A significant amount of Tor is hosted from Germany, but more importantly, if Germany outlaws it, many other countries that so far were afraid to do so will follow suite. All intelligence agencies despise Tor and lobby their governments to shut it down. It's a slippery slope.#Tor #Germany #Privacy

@Maltimore US NSA and ONI don't hate TOR since they invented it, and can presumably read the traffic from it. Non-5-Eyes agencies may not like it as much.

@mdhughes if you don't have any proof for this suggestion, I would consider this comment FUD, sorry.

@Maltimore Well, they host many servers and control routing. I say "presumably" because nobody outside those agencies knows, but it's stupid to proceed as if they can't, when they have the technical ability and the interest to do it.

@mdhughes Well I also know many people who happen to be not five-eyes agencies who host Tor servers. I also host a fairly fast one myself. And hosting only a part of the Tor network does not enable you to read any traffic (in the vast majority of cases), that's the whole idea. So I cannot let your assertion that five-eyes agencies can read Tor traffic stand. Also, in the Snowden documents it was revealed that they cannot.
